Love Me Forever

story: This was the first song where I was able to break out into other time signatures. I kept hearing this part in 7/8 and would bang it out on my shower wall every night so I wouldn’t forget it. The song captures a reflective moment where I realize how long I’ve walked with a very good and powerful God in my life.

Love Divine

story: I wrote this tune a few years back. It was a well received acoustic driven tune. I rediscovered it while messing with some synths and stuff. It took on a life of it’s own!

Midnight

story: I got to a place where I felt stuck, even dried up; I couldn’t write anymore songs. It reminded me of a lyric out of Psalms “as the deer pants for water so my soul longs for you.” I wrote a song about my experience. In fact, I committed to staying up all night until a song manifested itself. It’s as much a narrative about this struggle for inspiration as it is a song about a girl with a dried up, jaded soul.

Waves

story: I live pretty close to the beach and had heard someone liken God’s love to relentless waves - a constant outpouring that doesn’t stop. The imagery captured me and this song poured out.

Glory: spoken word

story: I wrote this for a vibey night of piano-centric music at an event called, “Deeper.” The piano was in the center of this big, old church building with cedar beams and candle light. Everyone was in a circle around the piano. The track references Isaiah and also to the gospel accounts of Jesus’ earthly ministry. In one of those accounts, a guy sits by the roadside and screams for Jesus to touch his eyes and allow him to see. Recently this track was dubbed the, “heartbeat of the album.”

Jesus Come Live In Me

story: I like this tune for several reasons. It has a very different feel to it and I like the lyrics in the bridge. It’s a confessional type of tune that sings well in a larger setting. Jesus talks about reflecting light (like mirrors and moonbeams).

Will You Worship Him

story: I was inspired through Imogean Heap’s “Hide and Seek” single to break out of the pop structure (intro, verse, chorus, bridge, etc) and to just sing something. This is what came out. Sometimes, I sing it with piano or acoustic. Other times I’ll loop right into this with some crazy vocoders and stuff.

Jesus Take My Heart

story: This song came from a cross-roads moment where neither road was perceivably wrong. One road seemed less intuitive and yet I felt something inside me pulling in that direction. My grammy likes to say, “Let go and let God” and this is a song about just that - about being completely open to the tangible leading of God (even when it’s not intuitive).

Come Rescue Me

story: I was able to purchase an old piano from Mt Hermon Camp that came with a lot of history. This song sort of flowed right out of the keys. I love how balanced it is in being as much a song of petition as praise. I love the organic bridge that goes out of time for about 10 bars. It also plays with time signatures in the rest of the tune.

Praise His Holy Name

story: One of the things I’ve discovered while touring was live sampling/looping. While in the studio, we captured these performances for several songs. This is a new tune that I look forward to sampling/looping live.
